Chapter 62.
                                            Strewings

         The rooms of Aurelio DeSolo were found in very much the same condition of violence as
those of Santi del Meglio several nights earlier. The furniture had been overturned, drawers
were opened, and papers, paints, paintbrushes were strewn everywhere. And there were two
long tracts of blood along the floor, trailing from the bed to the open door. The two painters had
obviously both met a similar end, executed most probably by the same hand.
